The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 is an extensively modified Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. The serious mods can be seen all over its body, but the most important ones are Army camo paint and off-road suspension.
Chevrolet made this vehicle a possibility in collaboration with TARDEC (Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center). This model has transitioned from a concept to reality in less than a year.
2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 – Stylish Exterior and Interior Design
This new Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 2017 doesn’t look anything like a commercial vehicle. This is because several combat functionalities have been added that produces a different exterior look. To start with the changes, this vehicle rides on bead-lock wheels with 37-inch knobby tires and therefore boasts an impressive 11.8 inches of ground clearance.
The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 weighs approximately 6,038 pounds, that’s 1,200 pounds more than the Colorado Diesel 4×4. Its front fascia is drastically changed as the headlights are slim and toned.
It sports a large, robust skid plate which dominates the front fascia. This skid plate also incorporates heavy duty tow hooks. High beam LED headlamps are also featured which adds more sportiness. The cargo bed is beefed up as it has an entirely new approach.
As this new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 has been designed as a combat vehicle, the focus is on its interior cabin being more productive. The standard seats are replaced by 4 Recaros that give a comfortable seating. A horizontal steel bar runs behind the seats which serve as a seat belt anchor.
Cabin parts that remain unchanged are the infotainment system, instrument cluster and the dashboard. The layout of the centre console, control buttons, AC vents and gauge cluster are stock, Colorado.
2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 – Powertrain
This new 2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 draws power from an AC synchronous motor that uses the hydrogen fuel cells for electricity. The impressive 236 lb-ft of torque produced by the motor is sent to all the 4 wheels. This also means that 2017 Colorado ZH2 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 15.4 seconds.
As of now, the maximum driving range is limited to 143 miles, but according to Chevrolet, these figures are targeted to reach 350 to 400 miles.
2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 – Availability
Currently, Chevrolet is working on further developments of this new Chevrolet Colorado ZH2. Several reports hold that the company will hand over this vehicle to the US Army in April 2017. Initially, this vehicle will go through a 1-year test before being finalised for combat operations.
