2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak Review, Specs

The Ranger series has always been Ford’s weakest line of pickups in terms of sales. However, according to Detroit News, Ford is going to give this line-up one more shot and 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak along with its other siblings are rumoured to be in production. This $40,000 pickup truck will lock horns with the likes of Nissan, Toyota and even GMC, but Ford’s F-series may continue to overshadow the Ranger versions.

2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak – Exterior Design and Cabin Look

The 2017 Wildtrak will retain its platform and chassis from its predecessors. However, Ford is likely to make some exterior design changes to impart a muscular look. The front bumper will be enlarged and will sport a new design. Its wheel arches may increase in size to compliment the bumpers and house bigger wheels. Front grille will retain its two-bar structure while headlights may drop a few centimeters in its overall width.

The 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak will come with optional roof rails. Expect a smooth body on its sides. Taillights will continue to boost its trapezoidal design with a signal exhaust tip places at one of the bottom corners. Expect LED fog lights and 10-spoke wheel design to be added by Ford this time around.

Interior:

Ford will continue with its previous designs. Expect a similar dash as the 2015 models. The new Ford Ranger Wildtrak will continue to come with power-adjustable bucket seats. Heating and ventilation features may be offered as standard for this higher trim model. It will be a 4×4 pickup multiple cab configurations.

Infotainment will be more advanced than any of its other trims. Ford may include voice activated navigation and automatic cabin temperature control as standard. Also expect Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to come with the new 2017 Wildtrak.

2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak – Powertrain

Two possibilities in this section for Ford’s new line of Ranger pickups:

  • A 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine capable of delivering a power output of 158 hp and a torque of around 284 lb-ft.
  • A bigger 3.2-liter engine with output power capacity of 197 hp and torque of around 347 lb-ft.

As Wildtrak is one of the higher-end trims in the Ranger series, Ford may equip it with the bigger version. Expect an all-wheel drivetrain with the optional automatic transmission system. Top speed may be limited to the 120 mph range depending on the pickup’s body weight.

Ford is likely to improve on its EPA figures. Previously, all its Ranger pickups sat right on the edge of Europe’s EPA limits. The automaker may improve this with its new 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak trim and others in this line-up.

Safety features:

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2017 will house all of Ford’s safety installations. This will include adaptive cruise control, electronic braking system, rear view camera with automatic park assist, cargo bed surveillance, side impact beams with pedestrian detection and lane keep assist.

The 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak will also come with blind spot monitoring system, radar-based forward collision detection and warning system and SOS alert system. Ford may also include traction control with torque vectoring features.
